Fall/Spring
Semester Programs
COWA Program’s semester programs offer students the incredible opportunity to experience the lively city of Seville while improving their Spanish proficiency.
Seville is the heart of Andalusia, a city that has been a cultural epicenter for over a thousand years. Renowned for its traditions of flamenco, bullfighting, and tapas, Seville is where history and modern life blend seamless.
Immerse yourself in Seville’s streets, where your education extends far beyond the classroom. Living with a local Spanish family allows you to practice the language daily while experiencing the culture firsthand. Explore the city’s historical landmarks, taste traditional Spanish dishes, build lasting relationships, and expand your worldview in a city that blends rich history with modern vibrancy.
Intermediate Program
COWA’s Intermediate Program is geared towards students who have completed intermediate Spanish classes, but still don’t feel confident holding a full conversation in Spanish.
Students in the Intermediate Program will take courses in areas like art, language, history, and politics alongside fellow students at COWA, all while immersing yourself in everyday Spanish life and conversation.
Advanced Program
Ready to take your Spanish to the next level? The COWA Program’s Advanced track is perfect for students who’ve completed advanced conversation courses and want to boost their fluency.
You’ll enroll in 1–2 university courses with Spanish students at the University of Seville or EUSA (a private affiliate), plus specialized COWA courses designed for advanced learners.
Life in Seville
Our Parent Handbook provides further details about your student’s living arrangements, health and safety guidelines, communication tips, and other useful information about your student’s experience abroad.
At COWA programs, students’ physical and mental well-being are our top priorities. We partner with trusted medical centers to provide personalized care when needed, and offer access to professional, English-speaking mental health services to support students throughout their time abroad.
Security
COWA staff is dedicated to matching you with a homestay that feels like home. We personally interview and visit each home to ensure it meets our high standards for safety, comfort, and proximity to campus. Additionally, our team is available 24/7 to support students with any issues that may come up during their stay.
Housing
Spanish Host Family: Your host family will provide room and board, including meals and laundry. Immersing yourself in a Spanish-speaking household is the perfect opportunity to practice and improve your language skills. Living with a Spanish family gives you an authentic experience, allowing you to discover Seville and Spanish culture through the eyes of locals.
Residence: For some students (depending on the program), accommodation is provided in a vibrant residence hall in the picturesque El Porvenir neighborhood, just a short 15-minute walk from the city center. You’ll share the space with other program participants, as well as local and international students, creating a dynamic and diverse living experience while you study in Sevilla.
Facilities
COWA’s headquarters are ideally located for both students and visiting faculty, right across from the iconic Maria Luisa Park. Just a short walk from the city center, the headquarters are also conveniently close to the University of Seville and EUSA main campuses, where some students may take classes alongside local peers. The location is well-served by public transportation, making it easy to get around.
Our modern facility features four fully-equipped smart classrooms, as well as dedicated offices for visiting faculty, student interns, and fellows. We also offer a spacious 1,000-square-foot indoor study area and auditorium, perfect for hosting a range of student activities—whether it’s live music, dance workshops, language exchanges, or simply a place to relax and socialize.
Dining
Since you’ll be living with a host family, all your meals will be provided unless alternative arrangements are made. This offers a unique opportunity to experience authentic Spanish cuisine and adapt to the local eating schedule. Meals with your host family will not only give you a taste of traditional Spanish dishes but also offer insight into the cultural significance of food in Spain.
If you have any personal dietary restrictions, these can easily be accommodated. To ensure your needs are met, be sure to inform COWA staff about your dietary restrictions and preferences as early as possible. Open communication will allow us to coordinate with your host family and make any necessary adjustments so that your meals are aligned with your dietary needs.
Activities and Trips
Along with exploring historical landmarks in Seville, we will also take several excursions and trips during your time abroad, taking you outside of the city and giving you the chance to explore more of the region:
Students will get to visit the ancient Roman city of Itálica, just 20 minutes from Sevilla. We’ll explore its well-preserved ruins, including a massive ampitheater (which served as a filming location for Game of Thrones) and walk the same arena floor where gladiators once fought.
Sevilla is located just a short drive from Spain’s southern coast which boasts many beautiful beaches. Weather permitting, we’ll take a day trip to relax and enjoy a beach day.
Students will take a day trip to the multicultural city of Córdoba. We’ll explore the Jewish quarter and visit the famous Mezquita-Catedral, a masterpiece that blends Islamic and Christian elements, telling the story of Andalucía’s diverse past.
We’ll take an overnight weekend trip to the stunning mountain city of Granada. Students will get to experience the local tradition of free tapas (order a drink, and a tapa comes with it!) and visit one of Spain’s most iconic landmarks, the Alhambra.
